«Advocacy for Veterans' Rights: Policy Development. Training course for local government representatives» - completed!

We are delighted to share the details on the successful completion of the project «Advocacy for Veterans' Rights: Policy Development. Training course for local government representatives».

Before creating the program, together with the Association of Amalgamated Territorial Communities, we conducted a survey across 241 communities throughout Ukraine to identify what local communities lack to effectively implement veteran policies. Based on the survey, a training plan was developed to meet specific needs for six territorial communities in the Sumy region.

For almost three months, representatives of local governments from six territorial communities in the Sumy region completed training and developed reintegration programs for veterans, under the guidance of mentors. As a result of this intensive work, six program projects were developed. In October, all developed projects were presented to local working groups at public hearings in the communities of Sumy, Krolevets, Konotop, Lebedyn, Chernechchyna, and Dubovyazivka.

The final project defence took place at the Kyiv School of Public Administration, where participants received expert evaluations from representatives of the Kyiv Regional State Administration, veteran organisations, and veterans themselves.

Scaling such initiatives will help create new policies that address the real needs of veterans and their families, ensuring community-based support.

We thank our partners: UNDP in Ukraine, the Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine, and the communities of Sumy region for their cooperation!
